From the Host & Founder
of this ride/event - Debbie Smith
As we gear up for our 5th Shake Rattle & Roll event for Parkinson’s Disease and benefiting Banner Neuro Wellness (BNW); I wanted to share how the money raised has impacted those affected with the disease and how impactful it has been in providing a higher quality of life through exercise, education and empowerment. We have new equipment to work with; we expanded our area for more classes, educational speakers, support groups, and even several boxing classes geared to the person’s level.
Being diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 51 left me wondering what life would look like in the future. I wasn’t sure how fast the disease would progress or just what impact I would have in the future. I tease people that God needed someone loud and energetic in the Parkinson’s Community so he chose me. You see, making a difference in other people’s lives has always been one of my goals in life. Through your support "WE" are making a difference in so many lives. BNW helped me to understand that exercising the muscles in my body and brain would provide the highest quality of life while living with a degenerative disease that has no cure.
My husband Brian and I are hosting our 5th Annual Shake Rattle & Roll motorcycle ride for Parkinson’s to benefit Banner Neuro Wellness. The volunteers for the event are people living with Parkinson’s and their caregivers, family and friends. Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale is the venue host and we Thank them!
Banner Neuro Wellness offers a state-of-the-art program that compliments the medical treatments and therapies for individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. Banner Neuro Wellness offers Exercise4BrainChange — which applies principles to optimize brain repair, brain recognition and skill acquisition for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
If you or your family, know anyone affected with this disease you know the struggles they find to have a quality of life as the disease progresses. Studies show exercises that specifically address the symptoms of PD can enhance a person’s mobility and quality of life. I am proud to say Banner Neuro Wellness programs addresses this.
We are grateful for the generosity of community partners like you, which enable those affected by Parkinson’s to have as good a quality of life as possible. Thank you for your time, consideration and generosity.
Thank you, Debbie Smith
